31/01/2016

The Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics, in collaboration with the Statistical Centre for the Cooperation Council for the Arab Countries of the Gulf (GCC-Stat), organizes a regional workshop on "Waste Statistics in GCC Countries" in Movenpick Tower Doha Hotel for the period 31 January to 2 February 2016.

The workshop aims to enhance the understanding of international standards on waste statistics in the GCC statistical system, discuss the needs of users in order to improve and spread out data quality, and promote the exchange of knowledge and cooperation between producers of waste statistics.

Experts from energy and environment statistics at the GCC-Stat, representatives of key stakeholders responsible for the compilation of waste statistics, technicians and expert statisticians representing national statistical agencies in GCC countries are taking part in the workshop.

This workshop is organized for professionals involved in the preparation of statistics for the waste sector (waste production by source, hazardous waste management, municipal waste management, etc.), and this workshop will promote communication and consolidation of technical standards used by the producers of such data.

Furthermore, this workshop will work to raise awareness about the required methodologies for the preparation of waste statistics in the region, according to the new international standards for waste statistics as per international recommendations for waste statistics. This will require increased cooperation within the national statistical systems; namely, the national statistical agencies and departments and the competent ministries.
