QSA appeals to families and individuals to cooperate in the implementation of the pilot census today

DOHA: Qatar will start today a pilot census in preparation for the country’s General Census of Population, Housing and Establishments to be conducted in April 2010.  

Senior official at the Qatar Statistics Authority (QSA) said some 700 households located in four municipalities, namely Doha, Al Rayyan, Al Wakra and Umm Slal will be enumerated during the three-day pilot census that will kick off on Wednesday.

The pilot census is scheduled to start today and will be completed on June,10. According to the QSA officials, some 30 enumerators will be provided with official badges issued by the Statistics Authority. "The pilot census enumerators will visit residents in four municipalities and collect data on family status, education, profession and population characteristics", the official said.

According to the officials, the enumerators involved in the census have been enrolled in 3-day intensive training programme and equipped with the latest technology tools that help the authority achieve effective results. "The census methodology has been carefully designed to ensure accuracy of data and will help QSA to develop effective tools and methods for the forthcoming general population census in 2010", said the official.


The QSA officials said that the census has completed three phases; namely the enumeration of buildings, identification of housing units, households and establishments, and enumeration of establishments.

QSA calls up on all families and individuals included in the pilot census to provide full cooperation and support to the census enumerators, due to the significance of the census.
