Press Release on Quarterly Foreign Merchandise Trade Statistics Quarter4 , 2021

The Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) is pleased to publish the Press Release on "Quarterly Foreign Merchandise Trade Statistics, Q4 2021 State of Qatar", comprising quarterly data on imports, exports, re-exports, and trade balance. The bulletin presents detailed statistics of the foreign merchandise trade of Qatar by commodity and partner country. Quarter-on-Quarter (Q-o-Q) percentage changes are also provided.

Foreign Merchandise Trade Balance: In Q4 2021, Qatar recorded a merchandise trade balance surplus (difference between total exports and imports) of QR 71.4 billion up from QR 24.7 billion in Q4 2020. 

Total Exports: In Q4 2021, the value of Qatar’s total exports (including exports of domestic goods and re-exports) amounted to QR 100.0 billion, increased by QR 50.9 billion (103.8%) compared to Q4 2020 which amounted total exports of QR 49.1 billion. And increased by nearly QR 17.4 billion or 21.1% compared to Q3 2021. 

The Q4 2021 year on year (Y-o-Y) increase in total exports was mainly due to higher exports of Mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials by QR 46.1 billion (116.1%), Chemicals and Related Products n.e.s. by QR 3.3 billion (64.3%), Manufactured Goods Classified Chiefly by Material QR 1.2 billion (88.0%), Machinery and Transport Equipment by QR 0.7 billion (52.3%). On other hand decreases was recorded mainly in Miscellaneous Manufactured Articles by QR 0.9 billion (76.2%). 


Imports: The value of Qatar’s imports in Q4 2021 was QR 28.6 billion; increased by QR 4.2 billion (17.4%) compared to Q4 2020 imports of QR 24.4 billion. And increased by nearly QR 3.8 billion or 15.5% compared to Q3 2021. 

The Q4 2021 (Y-o-Y) increase in imports values is mainly due to increases in Machinery and Transport Equipment by QR 1.5 billion (14.9%), Miscellaneous Manufactured Articles by QR 0.8 billion (18.5%), Chemicals and Related Products n.e.s. by QR 0.7 billion (28.8%), Crude Materials, Inedible Except Fuels by QR 0.5 billion (75.5%), Manufactured Goods Classified Chiefly by Material by QR 0.3 billion (8.8%). On other hand no significant decrease was recorded in Q4 2021. 


Major Export/Import Partners: During Q4 2021, Asia was the principal destination of Qatar’s exports and the first origin of Qatar’s imports, representing 71.3% and 43.7% respectively, followed by the European Union, accounting for 18.0% and 27.9% respectively, and GCC, with 5.0% and 3.5% respectively.
