STATISTICS OF BUILDING PERMITS AND BUILDING COMPLETION CERTIFICATES ISSUED, FEBRUARY 2024

Planning and Statistics Authority is pleased to publish the 110 issue of the monthly Statistics of Building Permits and Building Completion certificates issued by all municipalities of the State.

Building permits and building completion certificates data is of particular importance as it is considered an indicator for the performance of the construction sector which in turn occupies a significant position in the national economy.

This press release is intended to give a brief overview of the nature of these monthly permits and certificates in terms of their geographical distribution (according to the municipalities) and types of these permits and certificates as well as details about categories of the different types of buildings, whether they are residential or non-residential.

It is worth mentioning that the release of this monthly data comes under the joint cooperation between the Planning and Statistics Authority and the Ministry of Municipality to make use of the existing electronic link between the two sides.

First: Building Permits:
 
In a quick review of the data on building permits issued during the month of February 2024, according to their geographical distribution, municipality of Al Rayyan comes at the top of the municipalities where the number of building permits issued were 192 permits, i.e. 28% of the total issued permits, while municipality of Al Doha came in second place with 142 permits, i.e. 21%, followed by municipality of Al Da'ayen with 124 permits, i.e.18%, then Al Wakrah municipality with 100 permits, i.e.15%.
The rest of the municipalities were as follows: Umm Slal 53 permits (8%), Al Khor 46 permits (7%), Al Sheehaniya 19 permits (3%), Al Slammal 13 permits (2%).

In terms of type of permits issued, data indicates that the new building permits (residential and non-residential) constitutes 39% (268 permits) of the total building permits issued during the month of February 2024, while the percentage of additions permits constituted 59% (405 permits), and finally fencing permits with 2% (16 permits).
By analyzing new residential buildings permits data, we find that villas’ top the list, accounting for 88% (201 permits) of all new residential buildings permits, followed by apartments buildings permits by 10% (24 permits), and other residential buildings permits by 2% (4 permits).

On the other hand, industrial buildings e.g., workshops/factories were found to be in the forefront of non-residential buildings permits with 31% (12 permits), followed by commercial buildings with 28% (11 permits), then mosques with 23% (9 permits). 
Comparing number of permits issued in February 2024 with those issued in the previous month we noted a general decrease of 11%. This decrease was noted in the most of the municipalities:  Al Khor (30%), Al Rayyan (17%), Al Doha (16%), Umm Slal (15%), Al Shammal (13%), Al Wakrah(3%), On the other hand, there was a clear increase in the municipality of: Al Sheehaniya (27%), Al Da'ayen (13%). 

Secondly: Building Completion Certificates:

In a quick review of the data on building completion certificates issued during the month of February 2024, according to their geographical distribution, we find that municipality of  Al Wakrah come at the top of the municipalities where the number of building completion certificates issued were 101 certificates, i.e. (31%) of the total issued certificates, while Al Rayyan municipality came in second place with 69 certificates, i.e. (21%), followed by municipality of Al Da'ayen with 64 certificates (19%), then municipality of Al Doha with 63 certificates, i.e. (19%).

The rest of the municipalities were as follows: 
Al Khor 15 certificates 5%, Umm Slal 12 certificates 4%, Al Sheehaniya 3 certificates 1%, AL Shammal 2 certificates 1%.

In terms of type of certificates issued, data indicates that the new building completion certificates (residential and non-residential) constitutes 85% (278 certificates) of the total building certificates issued during the month of February 2024, while the percentage of additions certificates constituted 15% (51 certificates).
By analyzing new residential buildings completion certificates data, we find that villas’ top the list, accounting for 93% (183 certificates) of all new residential building’s completion certificates, followed by apartments buildings by 6% (11 certificates), then other residential buildings certificates by 1% (3 certificates).

On the other hand, commercial and administration buildings were found to be in the forefront of non-residential buildings completion certificates with 51% (41 certificates), followed by industrial buildings e.g., workshops and factories with 20% (16 certificates), then service / infrastructure buildings with 17% (14 certificates). 

Comparing number of certificates issued in February 2024 with those issued in the previous month we noted a general decrease of 11%. This decrease was clearly noted in the municipalities of: Umm Slal (65%), Al Shammal and Al Sheehaniya (50%) each municipality, Al Rayyan (24%), Al Wakrah (7%), Al Da'ayen (4%), On the other hand, there was a clear increase in the municipality of: Al Khor (50%), Al Doha (26%).
