Director General of GCC-Stat Visits the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics

​On Sunday, 7 May 2017, the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS) received HE Saber Bin Said Al Harbi, Director General of GCC Statistical Center (GCC-Stat) and the accompanying delegation.


The Director General of GCC-Stat discussed with HE Sultan Ali Al Kuwari, Assistant Undersecretary for Statistics Affairs, the progress in implementation of the priority statistical projects within the framework of the national action plan for the implementation of the strategic plan for the joint statistical work for the period 2015-2020.


Both sides also discussed a number of steps to be implemented within the framework of the joint statistical action plan for 2017-2018, particularly the needs of the State of Qatar for technical support and training provided by GCC-Stat.
The visit further discussed the priority statistical projects at the GCC level, such as national accounts, monetary and financial statistics, statistics of price indices and short-term indicators, foreign trade statistics, labor statistics, energy and environment statistics, SDGs 2030 indicators, business registers, tourism statistics and other related topics.


It should be noted that GCC-Stat has been established as the official source of data, information and statistics related to GCC countries. It also promotes the statistical and information work of national statistical centers and planning agencies in GCC countries. The establishment of GCC-Stat was approved by the GCC Ministerial Council in September 2011, and its statute was approved in December 2012 by the GCC Supreme Council, which comprises the heads of member states: United Arab Emirates, Kingdom of Bahrain, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Sultanate of Oman, State of Qatar and State of Kuwait.
