On Tuesday, February 28, the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) will hold a remote meeting on the "Launch of MARS Platform for National Statistical System” in cooperation with ESCWA, as a result of the establishment of the first national network of technical specialists in the Arab region. The aim is to support Qatar's commitment towards the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and to provide real-time national data up to international standards and recommendations at the national and global levels.

In this vein, the State of Qatar has been selected as a model for the use of MARS application (Monitoring Application for Reporting on SDGs) (https://mars.unescwa.org/). It is an application for monitoring and reporting SDGs in the National Statistical System. This web application aims to enable National Statistical Systems in the Arab region to manage data flow and facilitate data reporting on SDGs that are extracted from the administrative records of national agencies through the SDG technical specialists (data providers) and in line with the UN statistical calendar for reporting, i.e. the start and end date of the national communications. Later on, this exemplary experience will be generalised to other Arab countries.
The meeting will be attended by SDGs experts from national authorities and statisticians from PSA, together with international experts from ESCWA.

The meeting aims to enhance the electronic exchange of national information at both country and global levels in order to increase the SDGs data flow from all government institutions and agencies and others in a timely fashion. Participants will learn about the MARS platform and how to use it and upload documents to report on indicators. After the meeting, the reporting process will be initiated by the technical specialists, in line with the UN calendar for SDGs 2030.
