HE Dr. Saleh bin Mohammed Al Nabit, Minister of Development Planning and Statistics and Chairman of the Permanent Population Committee (PPC), and HE Dr. Luay  Shabana, Regional Director of United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), signed a cooperation agreement between Qatar and UNFPA.
The agreement is part of the ongoing partnership and cooperation between the State of Qatar and UNFPA, which provides technical support for activities related to population and development issues. The agreement’s program of action includes a mechanism for developing and following up the implementation of the new Qatar Population Policy (2017-2022).
The agreement aims to provide training on the implementation of the communication plan of Qatar Permanent Population Committee, which was previously developed in cooperation with UNFPA and is expected to be implemented at the end of 2017. Besides, it aims to establish a database for national statistics in accordance with international standards, and to provide technical support in the development area.
Moreover, the agreement is intended to strengthen PPC capacity and enable it to play its role of integrating the indicators of SDGs 2030 into its goals, empowering  youth, and providing technical support to ensure harmony between national youth strategies and international strategies. This also includes the analysis of demographic data and research on Population dynamics and its relation to demographic variables and social, health and economic issues, and to take decisions in this regard.
