Foreign Investment

Foreign investment is the ownership by an institution or an individual of assets in an enterprise operating in another country. The Foreign Investment Survey (FIS) is an important source of reliable and up-to-date information on all types of foreign direct investments (FDIs), as well as other cross-border transactions and balances involving equity and equity securities. Since 2010, the Department of Statistics of the (PSA), in collaboration with Qatar Central Bank (QCB), conducts the Annual Foreign Investment Survey to collect information on international financial transactions in assets and liabilities of privately-owned enterprises. The detailed information collected through FISs has proved useful to Qatar Central Bank (QCB) for the compilation of the Balance of payments (BOP) and the International Investment Position (IIP). The survey aims to collect comprehensive data from Qatar-based companies on their foreign investment positions, transactions and earnings with non-Qatar-based companies. The FIS was designed and conducted in line with the international recommendations and guidelines provided in the revised Balance of Payments Manual (BPM 6).
