The State of Qatar is taking necessary steps to become a subscriber of IMF's Special Data Dissemination System (SDDS). Under this scheme, countries are required to compile and disseminate quarterly foreign investment statistics. These statistics are essential for the compilation of Balance of Payment (BOP), International Investment Position (IIP) and External Debt statistics. In this context, The Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS) - in collaboration with Qatar Central Bank (QCB) – will organize a workshop on quarterly Foreign Investment Survey on Tuesday, 25 July 2017, at the premises of MDPS. The main objective of the one-day workshop is to introduce the survey questionnaire. Concepts and definitions as well as instructions on how to fill in the questionnaire will be discussed in details by representatives from all enterprises targeted by the survey.
The Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics, in close collaboration with Qatar Central Bank, is launching the first quarterly foreign investment survey in late July, referencing the periods Q1 and Q2, 2017. MDPS will be collecting data from private non-banking sector while QCB will be responsible for covering banks and financial entities under their supervision.
It is noteworthy that the Quarterly foreign investment survey, targeting only enterprises with major foreign investment, is a simplified version of the annual survey. The survey will be addressing a smaller number of enterprises compared to the annual survey.
