14/03/2018

Under the patronage of HE Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Al-Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Qatar’s 2nd National Development Strategy (NDS2) 2018-2022 will be launched today. The 2nd National Development Strategy is part of a series of successive development strategies that translate the targets of Qatar National Vision QNV 2030 and its four pillars “human development, social development, economic development and environmental development” into tangible reality. NDS2 reflects the aspirations to transform Qatar by 2030 into a developed country, capable of achieving sustainable development and ensuring a continued well-being for its people for generation to come.

The launching ceremony will be attended by ministers and representatives of ministries and government bodies, as well as representatives of the private sector, civil society institutions, the academia and all those involved in the preparation of NDS2.

More than 50 government and non-government entities and more than 150 representing members were involved in the development of NDS2. The Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics led the comprehensive preparation process through the Supervisory Group - the highest authority in the governance structure of strategy preparation– chaired by HE the Minister of Development Planning and Statistics and supported by relevant task forces.
The first task force reviewed the priorities in NDS1 and the proposals for sectoral development priorities. It also monitored the work and outputs of sectoral task forces, reviewed NDS2 draft and endorsed the recommendations therein. The second task force collected and analyzed data and information and prepared sectoral reports for the 2nd National Development Strategy 2018-2022.

The Consultative Group, which includes high-level representatives of Qatar University, Qatar Foundation, Qatar Foundation for Social Work, Qatar Museums, the Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities, Qatar Chamber and Qatar Development Bank, supported the Supervisory Group by providing advice on strategic results, programs, projects and goals included in NDS2, and proposed development topics that needed to be included therein.

The World Bank provided technical advisory services to work groups and task forces, and Doha Institute for Graduate Studies reviewed the chapters of NDS2 from a technical perspective, while the Project Management Office (PMO), established by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics, coordinated and prepared the strategy, developed models and reference frameworks, and provided logistical and technical support to work groups and task forces.
