The Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics Launches Qatar’s 2nd National Development Strategy 2018-2022

HE Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Al-Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, launched Qatar’s 2nd National Development Strategy (NDS2) 2018-2022, which comes within the framework of a series of successive development strategies that translate the targets of Qatar National Vision QNV 2030 into tangible reality.


In his opening speech, His Excellency noted that the evaluation of success in achieving NDS2 results and goals depends on the effective and efficient implementation of planned development programs and projects, and on the use of state resources wisely and efficiently.


“To achieve success and reach the goals of NDS2, we must direct investments to meet the requirements of sustainable development, continuously build human and institutional capacities, attract and retain high-skilled and productive labor force, support and develop entrepreneurial capacities, and promote R & D, inventions and creativity”,  he added.

In his speech, His Excellency also highlighted the achievements of Qatar's first National Development Strategy and the key challenges it faced.


 For his part, HE Dr. Saleh Bin Mohammed Al Nabet, Minister of Development Planning and Statistics, gave a detailed presentation explaining the components, priorities and goals of NDS2. He stressed that the coming period until the end of the second strategy requires all government agencies to prepare their strategic and executive plans that are consistent with NDS2, and that can achieve their results within the specified time frame.


“The national development priorities are the same priorities of the ministries and government agencies, including areas of institutional development and modernization. The interaction and partnership between the public and private sectors need to increased, and the role of civil society organizations in the implementation of this strategy needs to be expanded” he added.

His Excellency concluded his speech by thanking all those who contributed to the preparation of NDS2, extending special thanks to HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior for sponsoring this event and for his continued support throughout the preparation of NDS2.


The launching ceremony was held at the Sheraton Doha Hotel and was attended by ministers and representatives of ministries, government bodies, the private sector, civil society institutions, the academia, as well as all those involved in the preparation of NDS2.
